Organization tips
I have lived in some very tiny houses. One of the ways to make it appear cleaner and larger is to stay organized. Organization can be fun and even part of your aesthetic and design style. Learn how to make your space functional as well as beautiful by following these steps:
- Make goals: Think about what you want to achieve in your space in both the short term and the long term.
- Write out a list: Mark down tasks you would like them to accomplish. Personally I like to use a google doc or the notes app in my phone. This makes it easily available to add task or check periodically no matter where I am.
- Declutter often: Keep spaces tidy. Sort through mail immediately. Don’t let paperwork stack up to the point it seems daunting. Carve out time weekly to tackle these small tasks before they become a bigger problem.
- Utilize calendars: Appointment cards can be easily misplaced or lost or forgotten about. Invest in a planner, paper calendar, or digital calendar based on whatever your preference is. I personally love this digital calendar. I can update it from my phone and keep track of the entire family’s schedules. You can also make a chore list, grocery list, etc to fit all your needs.
- Create routines and stick with them
- Make time: Just like with other chores and less favorable tasks, things don’t seem so daunting when you keep up with them regularly.
- Keep distractions to a minimum: I think most moms can relate when I say it is INCREDIBLE all that I am able to accomplish in one hour without anyone interrupting me. Although I do like a podcast playing in the background to somewhat take my mind off the fact that I am cleaning.
- Be fluid and flexible: It might take you a few times to revamp before you find an organization system or style that functions for your household. Be ready to re-strategize and switch things up if needed.
- Utilize available resources: There are many different apps to organize notes, schedules, and photos. There are also an endless amount of products out there. The key is to research and figure out what will function best for you.
- Develop Good Habits and stick to them: Habits like putting things back in their place, planning ahead, and regularly reviewing your goals contribute to long-term organization.
- Practice Self-Discipline: Commit to this change and keep up with it, even when it is challenging.
